Common Sense, Christian, Conservative

My wife, Sarah, and I both graduated from MU. Sarah earned a Bachelor of Music degree and I earned my Bachelor of Science in Education degree with a certificate in Chemistry Education. I went on to receive my Masters of Science in Analytical Chemistry from PSU in 1992.
I taught Chemistry and Physics at Sweet Springs, MO, Vandalia, MO and 15 years in Moberly High School, Moberly, MO. My four children (Caleb, Joshua, Naomi and Anna) all graduated from Moberly High School. I am an Elder at Timberlake Christian Church where we have attended for all of our years in Moberly. I have served 3 terms as State Representative . I am currently running for State Senate District 18.
Endorsement by Current Senator Cindy O'Laughlin:
Representative Ed Lewis will enter the Senate 18 race. Ed lives in Moberly, is a retired teacher and is well liked in the capitol. He has sponsored and passed high profile conservative measures such as pro life legislation and Initiative Petition reform.
I fully endorse Ed to take my seat as I am termed out at the end of this year. He is fair, honest and a solid Christian who will work hard for our area. Listed here is a summary of some of his accomplishments.
Representative Ed Lewis is running for 18th District Senator, Representative Lewis is in his 6th year serving the citizens of Macon and Randolph County. He lives in Moberly with his wife Sarah and has 4 children and 9 grandchildren. He is an Elder at Timberlake Christian Church and is a common Sense, Christian, Conservative voice in the Missouri house where he has been an effective legislator getting Republican priorities across the finish line and doing real legislative work.
He serves as the Chair of Education and the Co-Chair of Joint Committee for Education as well as serving on budget and as the Vice-Chair of Education Appropriations he also serves on Utilities committee where he has proposed solar legislation similar to Senator O’laughlin’s and Senator Fitzwater’s legislation which would regulate industrial solar installations and protect our rural way of life from predatory LLC’s flashing quick cash but no real energy solutions.
Some of his legislation he has actually passed in the past 5 years:
· 2022- No Patient Left Alone Act, Substitute Teacher Bill, Minor Anti-Trafficking Bill
· 2024-Bill HB 1234-Which blocked DENALI from creating a sludge pit and contaminating the land in Randolph and Macon Country with mixed industrial waste spread on farms.
· 2024-SB 727 – Education omnibus which increased teacher salary and created the State Teacher Recruitment and Retention Scholarship
· 2025-SB 68 This last year he carried several education related bills in HB 607 became part a large part of SB68. This bill blocked cell phone use in schools, allowed IEP students to receive services across state lines, and allowed small schools like Atlanta to participate fully in virtual education making them more fiscally sound.
He is currently serving on the Governor’s task force to Modernize the Foundation Formula and the Joint committee on Education as well.
He is strongly pro-life and was the sponsor of Amendment 3 to repeal and replace the IP amendment legalizing Abortion which passed the house and senate and will be on the ballot in November 2026
He also carried and passed in the 2nd Extraordinary Session this last summer the Initiative Petition Reform bill for our Constitution. This Initiative Petition Reform ballot measure will protect the Constitution of Missouri from KC and St Louis domination by changing the ratification process for Initiatives to change the constitution to a simple majority vote (50% +1) in each of the Congressional districts in the state of Missouri.

The newly redrawn District 6 map is most of Randolph and all of Macon County. Linn County was added into the 48th and will be represented by Rep. Tim Taylor. All life is a blessing from God. Life at all stages is sacred. The unborn child is life and should be protected by our Government and all of its citizens. Life is sacred from the moment of conception to the natural ending of our life.
Our country was founded by people fleeing a country that didn't allow for the free exercise of their religion. It is a fundamental principle of our government to allow individuals to worship God without governmental interference.
The 2nd Amendment guarantees American citizens the right to "keep and bear arms". This right must be protected and should not be infringed upon.
The government is best which governs the least. Limited government which provides the background in which we live but doesn't invade every part of our lives. The government should not be looked at to solve all of our problems.
Local control of education has always been the way education in America has thrived. Every student in Missouri deserves a high quality education even if he or she finds him or herself in a district with a failing school. Missouri must provide a method for all students to acquire a quality education.
The Physics definition of energy is the ability to do work. Work will take place in Missouri and elsewhere only if we continue to have cheap, reliable energy sources. A large percentage of our electricity in Missouri comes from coal fired power plants, and it is one of the reasons Missouri's electric prices are among the lowest in the nation. Coal, natural gas, and gasoline are the lifeblood of our economy, and we need to recognize this fact even as we pursue alternative energy sources. 85% of the electricity used in Missouri is not generated by wind or solar energy.
